Contemporary		Historic		American Indian College Fund
The Pendleton Woolen Mills is celebrating their 100 year anniversary this year. They are the last of the great woolen mills to continue to create blankets with beautiful Native American design concepts. Any great trading post over the last one hundred years would know to stock Pendleton Blankets because Pendletons were the prized possession of all Indian Peoples.		Collecting vintage trade blankets was great fun for my wife Marianne and I. We were so drawn to the importance of blankets to the American Indian People that we eventually wrote the book The Language of the Robe in 1992. This book is still consider the basic primer for understanding and identifying blankets.		These Pendleton Blankets were created to benefit the American Indian College Fund. These blankets were designed by Native American artists and $100 from each sale is donated to the College Fund.

The Rainbow Man and Pendleton blankets have a very rich shared history. We have been selling Pendleton blankets for over 30 years, and in fact, Bob Kapoun wrote the seminal history of the Indian trade blankets entitled Language of the Robe.

The beauty of a Pendleton blanket is that they are actually two blankets in one. The Chaco Trail blanket to the right beautifully demonstrates this unique feature. By weaving multi colors of yarn into the blanket each side has a totally different color palette.

We have divided the blankets into three categories: Historic, Contemporary and the College Fund. The Historic blankets are either limited edition blankets or vintage blankets. The Contemporary blankets are blankets still in production by Pendleton.
